It is with great sadness that we report the passing of popular Malayalam film actor and television anchor Subi Suresh on January 28, 2022. She was 41 years old.
According to hospital authorities, Subi was admitted to Rajagiri Hospital near Aluva, where she was undergoing treatment for acute liver failure. Unfortunately, her condition worsened, and she passed away at around 10 a.m. on January 28.
Subi Suresh was a native of Thripunitura in Ernakulam and rose to fame through her performances in comedy programs on stage. She was an active participant in various stage programs organized by the Cochin Kalabhavan troupe. Her unique style of delivering dialogues and impeccable timing helped her make a name for herself on television. She appeared in popular comedy programs on various Malayalam television channels, including 'Cinemala' on Asianet.
Subi was a talented stand-up comedian and made her big-screen debut in director Rajasenan’s 2006 film, ‘Kanakasimhasanam.’ Over the years, she appeared in several other films, including 'Drama,' 'Panchavarnathatha,' 'Killadi Raman,' 'Thaskaralahala,' and 'Happy Husbands,' among others.
The news of Subi's passing has left the Malayalam film and television industry in shock. Many celebrities, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, have expressed their condolences and paid tribute to the late actor. Pinarayi Vijayan remarked that the state had lost an artiste who had staged several programs on stage, besides acting in movies. Ramesh Pisharody, who collaborated with Subi for various programs for nearly two decades, spoke highly of her exceptional talent for coming up with creative comedy skits. Tini Tom, an actor, stated that Subi's loss cannot be replaced, as she was among the few women mimicry artistes in Malayalam.
