The polling in Madhya Pradesh was marred by violence, including the gruesome murder of a Congress corporator. Despite this, the turnout was high at 76.1%, expected to cross 80%. Women seemed to outnumber men in the queues. Violence was reported from 23 places, with incidents of gunfire, stone-pelting, and clashes. The murder case of the corporator has been registered against a BJP candidate and 18 others. The polling was peaceful in Maoist-affected districts.
