Punjab loses youth and money to criminals facilitating the illegal immigration to Europe. Recent incidents include a plane carrying mostly Indians grounded in France over suspected human trafficking and six youths surviving nine days in a jungle, getting thrashed by border security forces, and spending time in a Russian jail. The youths, five from Punjab and one from Haryana were able to return home after the intervention of Rajya Sabha member Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal.
