Meghalaya Catholic priests can 'bless' same sex-couples sans marriage rite

The Archdiocese of Shillong in Meghalaya, India, has granted permission for Catholic priests to bless same-sex couples. However, the blessing will be conveyed through "informal words" and should not be interpreted as official approval of the union, as clarified by Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh. This decision aligns with a recent historic change in Vatican policy approved by Pope Francis. The Archbishop emphasized that these blessings will lack any Church rituals resembling a marriage rite and will be spontaneous prayers by priests.
