Providing legal guarantee for procurement of all crops at minimum support price could result in a fiscal disaster, govt sources said on Tuesday, while indicating their willingness to engage in dialogue with farmers groups. Pointing out how a legislation offering a guarantee was not feasible, officials argued that value of agricultural produce in the country during FY20 was pegged at Rs 40 lakh crore, while the market value of the 24 crops that are part of MSP regime was estimated at Rs 10 lakh crore.
