The city of Salem in Tamil Nadu is becoming a key contributor to Isro's space missions. Students from Sona College of Technology successfully powered the GSLV-F14 rocket, which launched the weather satellite Insat-3DS. They had previously developed a stepper motor for India's launcher for the Chandrayaan-3 mission. Salem's expertise in textiles and steel production has now expanded into the field of space technology.
