In order to ease persisting doubts in the Supreme Court's mind about the Centre's power to bar states from imposing tax on major minerals, the Union govt on Tuesday told a 9-judge CJI-led bench that Parliament-enacted Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) Act ousts states from the jurisdiction to levy tax on minerals which are national resources.
