Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the underwater Metro, connecting Kolkata and Howrah. The Esplanade-Howrah stretch of the Metro will be open to the public in seven to 10 days. The New Garia-Airport Metro and Joka-Esplanade Metro were also launched. Wednesday was a milestone in Kolkata's rapid transit network, reminiscent of the country's first Metro line in 1984.
