Motel owner Rakesh Ehagaban was fatally shot by guest Stanley Eugene West after confronting him about a disturbance. West had first shot a woman in the motel parking lot before fleeing in a U-Haul. Police later tracked West, resulting in a shootout where both West and a detective were injured.
